You’ll reap many rewards from sustainable renovations:

Insulation traps air inside, so ventilate to keep everything fresh:

Insulating your house saves energy, but it's important to remember that incoming air isn’t always fresh. If you don’t ventilate your home, moisture and pollution will remain in the air. This can cause health problems and damage to your house.

Healthy indoor air:

The quality of the air that you breathe in greatly impacts how you feel. Fresh, oxygen-rich air promotes better sleep and improved concentration. That is why proper ventilation is key. A good ventilation system creates the right balance of ‘health’, ‘energy efficiency’ and ‘comfort’: good for your home and good for you.

Total solution:

Would you also like to make other changes, like solar panels or a heat pump? Zehnder will guide you along the way. This will enable you to renovate your home in a way that keeps each area comfortable with sustainable ventilation and heating.

Steps to transform your house into a future-proof home.

Taking the right steps

1. Carefully read the pros and cons for each ventilation system. Perform the ventilation check to see which solutions will work best for your living situation. Create a wish list for maximising health, comfort and energy efficiency in your home, according to your preferences.

2. Find an installer and discuss what you want. The installer will see if it is possible. New construction often allows for anything you wish. If you are renovating, the feasibility of your preferences will be thoroughly investigated.

3. There will then be an intake interview with the installer. Upon request, the installer will contact Zehnder for recommendations and a ventilation calculation. The ventilation calculation indicates the unit and controls suited to your preferences and the size of your home. The final result is the perfect recommendation for a quiet and balanced ventilation system. Using this calculation and your preferences, the installer will draw up a quotation.

4. The installer will start with preparations for your home. They will order the correct materials and ensure that everything is available on time.

5. The moment has arrived! The ventilation system is about to be installed. It all starts with the roof ducts and the installation of the air distribution ducts. The ducts ensure that clean air is transported to or extracted from the rooms in the house. The control systems will be installed as well. These might include CO2 sensors in the bedrooms and living room or a timer in the bathroom. The control systems let the unit know when it needs to ventilate, so that the air is always clean.

6. The ventilation system is in place and the ducts have all been connected to it. Now it’s time to get everything set up. This will be done by the installer or a Zehnder indoor climate expert. During the system calibration, the ventilation calculation will be used to set the valves in the rooms to the required air volume (depending on the size of the room). The units will be set accordingly to ensure the system is balanced and functions as desired.

7. Last but not least, the ventilation system will require maintenance. A heat recovery system needs to have its filters changed every six months. You can easily replace the filters yourself. They are available for purchase at the Zehnder web shop. We also recommend regularly bringing in an indoor climate expert to check the ventilation system. You can sign up for a heat recovery system maintenance plan for this. If you have a mechanical ventilation system, we recommend getting it checked every 2 years.

What does a ventilation system cost?

The costs of a ventilation system vary significantly based on the type of ventilation system you choose. Replacement is generally more affordable than an entirely new system, because there will already be existing components in the house. Overall, the greater the investment, the more money you save on heating costs.
